Dušan Strnad was elected to the National Council as a representative of local interests (22. electoral unit – Grosuplje).
In the National Council, he is:
- member of the Interest Group of Local Interests,
- president of the Commission for Local Self-Government and Regional Development,
- member of the Commission for State Organisation.
About the member of the National Council
Dušan Strnad was born on 24 October 1961 in Ljubljana and spent his youth in Zdenska vas in the current Municipality of Dobrepolje. Since 1983, he has lived in Kriška vas in the Municipality of Ivančna Gorica. He is married and a father of three adult children. He is a company secretary and was previously employed at Cestno podjetje Ljubljana (Road Company Ljubljana), the Elementary school Dobrepolje, the Slovenian Democratic Party, and the Municipality of Ivančna Gorica.
In his hometown, he is an active member of the Volunteer Fire-Fighting Society Kriška vas and the Polževo Tourist Society. His passion for volunteering and charity work is evident also in his work with the charitable institution Vrtnica, which helps those in need, where he was a long-time president, as well as in his work for the Association of Drivers and Auto-Mechanics in Ivančna Gorica and the Ivančna Gorica Basketball Club, which he helped found. While he used to be an active handball player, he currently only engages in sports recreationally.
In 2016 he was awarded the bronze badge of the Civil Defence of the Republic of Slovenia.
He has extensive experience in work on the regional level. Among other things, he was a member of two councils of local communities, a member of the municipal council for three mandates, as well a deputy member for six years. He has been mayor of the Municipality of Ivančna Gorica since 2010.
He has been actively engaged in politics since 1994. His active political life has led him to various activities and functions within the Slovenian Democratic Party, varying from the municipal to the state level. He was also head secretary of the Party for 10 years.
He was a member of the State Election Commission for 8 years.
Since 2012, he has been a member of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. In the VI. mandate (2017 – 2022), he was elected president of the Commission for Local Self-Government and Regional Development.
