Igor Marentič was elected to the National Council as a representative of local interests (16. electoral unit – Sežana).
In the National Council, he is:
- member of the Interest Group of Local Interests,
- member of the Commission for Economy, Trade, Tourism and Finance,
- member of the Commission for Local Self-Government and Regional Development.
About the member of the National Council
Igor Marentič was born in 1967 in Ptuj. Soon thereafter, his father Alojz Marentič started work at the company Javor, moved to Postojna with his family, and created a home there. Igor Marentič, too, found his first employment at Javor. He remained loyal to the timber industry for 24 years.
In his personal life, Igor is primarily a family man, but also an athlete and musician. His son and daughter, as well as his wife Maja, support him in all of his activities. They even share their interest in music, which has accompanied Igor ever since elementary school. Through the years, he was successful in both the professional and musical world, and his persistence, strong will, and infallible sense of self-discipline and organisation also led him to position himself as an excellent athlete. He has engaged in paragliding for almost a quarter of the century. During this time, he won four consecutive titles of national champion in para-motor gliding and even broke the world speed record for a two-way cross-country flight to 20 kilometres.
For 6 years, he served as an external associate in the monthly publication “Prestop” and assisted in the production of the rubric “Our towns from the air.” He published photographs that he had captured over many years from under the paragliding parachute and collected during his overflights of the Pivka Valley.
Igor also likes to dedicate his time to nautical pastimes. On board his sailboat, he and his family sailed the Adriatic Sea, fought the wind and waves, visited many wonderful islands, and enjoyed meeting new faces. He built friendly bonds with many of them. He still enjoys collecting his thoughts and making plans for the future while tensioning and pulling the ropes of the sailboat, the sails of which always catch the wind.
