About the member of the National Council
Ivan Meglič is from Zadraga in the Municipality of Naklo, he is a husband, a father of three children, and a construction engineer with over 40 years of work experience as a project leader and supervisor of infrastructure, engineering, and commercial structures. For 6 years, he was the director of his own project company that employed from 3 to 4 project leaders. During his professional experience, he obtained knowledge, experience, and capabilities in the field of project leadership, management, and construction of both the smallest and most complicated infrastructural objects. As part of his work, he got to know the functioning of numerous municipalities of Gorenjska, across Slovenia, and abroad. Throughout all of these years, he obtained extensive knowledge of the functioning of local self-government – the municipalities.
For 23 years, he was president of the cultural-tourism organisation “Pod Krivo jelko” Duplje which organises cultural and touristic events in Duplje and across the municipality. In addition to cultural events, it is concerned with the preservation of natural and cultural heritage, as well as managing and maintaining the ethnographic museum at the Vogvar farmhouse. For many years, he was also active in his local firefighting organisation.
He was actively involved in the work of the Municipality of Naklo as it was being founded. He was elected to all of its municipal councils until the present day. For three terms, he performed the function of deputy mayor on a non-professional basis. During these years, he successfully led numerous projects that positioned the Municipality of Naklo side by side with larger and formerly better-equipped municipalities.
In 2018, he was elected mayor of the Municipality of Naklo. Because he decided to perform this function professionally, he concluded his work as a project leader in his own firm and he entrusted the management to younger colleagues who have successfully continued the work. In 2022, he concluded his first term as mayor and started his second. As mayor, he is calm and empathetic. With his experience, he has tackled various projects across the municipality and, in collaboration with colleagues, successfully completed them in a timely fashion. Notably, he constructed infrastructure across the municipality (Naklo, Strahinj, Podbrezje, Okroglo, Želje…), managed educational and cultural facilities, and constructed a new football pitch. Additionally, he paid a lot of attention to protection and rescue. In the past term, he greatly increased the funding for purchasing equipment for firefighters and civil protection. Cultural organisations and successful individuals, too, received appropriate support.
With much enthusiasm, he tackled his work as part of this second mayoral term, as well as his five-year term as a member of the National Council.
