Marko Staroveški was elected to the National Council as a representative of employers.
In the National Council, he is:
- member of the Interest Group of Employers,
- member of the Commission for Economy, Trade, Tourism and Finance,
- member of the Commission for Agriculture, Forestry and Food.
About the member of the National Council
Marko Staroveški spent his childhood years in Podčetrtek. He attended elementary school in Podčetrtek, which was known as an experimental school with many free activities (commerce, banking, radio, etc.) and an emphasis on responsibility and hard work. He continued his education at the Celje Catering School and the Ljubljana Hotel School. He pursued his wish for further education at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana, from which he graduated in 1982 under the mentorship of prof. dr. Janez Planina. After completing compulsory military service in 1983, he became employed in Metalka Ljubljana, in the Metalka Engineering sector. He completed his traineeship and independently took over the management of certain projects. In 1986, he accepted the challenge to work at Metalka’s Prague office. He was responsible for the field of chemistry, paper and wide-range consumption. At the same time, he learned and familiarised himself with commerce with metallurgy under the mentorship of a metallurgy expert, Mr Janez Bidovec. In 1991, he became employed at Kovintrade d.o.o., Celje, and continued his work in Prague. Soon after, he founded the company Kovintrade Praga and mostly focused on exporting Slovene products to Czechoslovakia (at the time) until 2000.
After returning from abroad, he continued his work at Kovintrade d.d., Celje, as a member of management for the external commercial network and development until 2013. During this time, he founded and maintained the growth of newly-founded companies in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Croatia. The essential aspect of his activities was the sale of Slovene metallurgical products in all external markets.
At the beginning of the financial and banking crisis in Slovenia, he accepted the challenge of working as the head of management, which he continued until 2020. The company successfully overcame the crisis and remained a successful Slovene company with internal ownership. He retired as he fulfilled the legal retirement criteria.
