He was elected to the National Council as a representative of employers.
In the National Council, he is:
- a member of the Interest Group of Employers,
- president of the Commission for Economy, Trade, Tourism and Finance,
- member of the Commission for Social Care, Labour, Health and the Disabled.
About the member of the National Council
Mitja Gorenšček began his career path in 1988 in the Iskra system and related entities. His first employment was at Iskra Bovec, d.o.o. in the field of human resources, and he continued as an independent expert for the development, coordination, and introduction of optimal business solutions in the field of quality in order to fulfil the company’s strategies and goals. He acquired knowledge of ISO standards and became the lead expert of the purchasing department, where he gained knowledge and experience in the field of foreign trade and customs. He subsequently took over the management of the sales department. From 1 March 2008 until 31 December 2017, he worked as a director of the firm (which changed its title on numerous occasions during his tenure) Iskra Bovec, Letrika Boves, Mahle Letrika Bovec, as well as Mahle Electric Drives Bovec.
During his leadership, the company tripled its sales and increased its number of employees from 188 to 340. The result of such management was the transformation from a negative to a positive stable business result. Simultaneously, the company paid off all of its loans and now relies exclusively on its assets to fund operations.
Outside of his regular work, he was active in the bodies of GZS (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia), was a member of its management board, president of the management board for the Electronics and Electrical Industry Association, a member of the management board of the Northern Primorska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, vice-president of the Development Council of Goriško Region, member of the management board of the Managers’ Association, as well as an active member of other smaller regional associations and societies.
He has been employed as the executive director of GZS (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia) since 1 January 2018. During his first term as a member of the National Council, he led the Economic and Social Council (ESS) and remains a member today. He was chair of the Commission for the Economy, Craft, Tourism and Finance, and a member of the Commission for Social Care, Employment, Healthcare and the Disabled. He is currently a member in five institution councils, of which he chairs two.
He lives in Ljubljana, is a family man, and has three adult children. He dedicates his spare time to culture; he enjoys visiting art exhibitions and musical events.
