He was elected to the National Council as a representative of local interests (6. electoral unit - Velenje). 

In the National Council, he is:

  • a member of the Interest Group of Local Interests;
  • member of the Commission for Local Self-Government and Regional Development,
  • member of the Commission for Economy, Trade, Tourism and Finance.
About the member of the National Council

Peter Dermol was born on 26 January 1978 and has lived in Velenje his entire life. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering (Automation) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Maribor.

He gained his first professional experience in Thermoelectric Power Plant Šoštanj, d.o.o., where he worked from 2006 until 2014. He was also the company’s director in 2013 and 2014. He was deputy mayor of the Municipality of Velenje from 2015 until 11 October 2020, when he was elected as mayor during the by-elections. He was re-elected as mayor of the Municipality of Velenje at local elections on 20 November 2022.

From 2008 until 2013, he was a member of the Commission for Public Tenders Procedures for co-financing youth projects in the Municipality of Velenje as well as a council member of the Velenje Youth Centre. From 2011 until 2015, he served as a council member of the Energy Agency for Savinjska, Šaleška and Koroška Regions (Institution KSSENA) and was the council’s president in 2012.

He was a member of the Committee for the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Municipality of Velenje from 2010 until 2014, a member of the municipal council of Velenje, and a member of its Committee for the Economy. He was also a member of the Commission for Public Office, Elections and Appointments from 2018 until 2020. From 2015 until 2020, he was the head of a councillor group of Social Democrats in the council of the Municipality of Velenje.

The mayor of the Municipality of Velenje, Peter Dermol, is a member of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. In 2023, he also became president of the Association of Urban Municipalities of Slovenia, a member of the Development Council of the Cohesion Region of Eastern Slovenia, and a member of the management board of the Entrepreneurs’ Club of the SAŠA region.

Peter Dermol actively speaks and writes English, Croatian, and Serbian. He is married and has a daughter. He is responsible, decisive, persistent, outgoing, and a sports enthusiast.
