Dr Radovan Stanislav Pejovnik was elected to the National Council as a representative of research activities.

In the National Council, he is:

  • member of the Interest Group of Non-Commercial Fields,
  • vice-president of the Commission for Education, Culture, Science, Sport and the Youth,
  • member of the Commission for International Relations and European Affairs.

About the member of the National Council

Radovan Stanislav (Stane) Pejovnik is a professor emeritus of the University of Ljubljana. 

He was born in 1946 in Dolenja vas in the lower Sava Valley. He graduated from the Celje High School and completed a bachelors, masters and doctoral degree at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (FKKT) of the University of Ljubljana. He was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart, Germany, a visiting professor at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA, and a visiting professor at the Technical University, Graz, Austria. He received an honorary doctorate from Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, USA. In Slovenia, he founded the Laboratory for Chemical Sources of Electrical Energy at the National Institute of Chemistry, which is recognised on the European and global level. He has published a large number of scientific articles in the best publications in his area of expertise.

For 16 years, he was the director of the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, and then the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (FKKT) and a Rector of the University of Ljubljana. He was the state secretary for higher education in the government of Dr Janez Drnovšek. He received numerous awards and prizes, among them the highest Slovene award in the field of research, the ZOIS award for life achievement in the field of material engineering. He was a member of the National Council for university, secondary and higher education in the V. term of the National Council.
For many years, he led the Slovene national commission for UNESCO and was a permanent representative of Slovenia in the UNESCO executive board. He is an ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia for science, a regular member, president and currently lead secretary of the Engineering Academy of Slovenia, a regular member of the International Engineering Academy, a member of the World Academy of Art and Science, an ANURS academic, a regular member of the European Academy of Science and Art, a honorary member of the Croatian and a foreign member of the Serbian Engineering Academy.

He has lectured all over the world. He was a mentor of a high number of bachelors dissertations (80), masters dissertations and over 35 doctoral dissertations.
